The week that was: 27 May – 31 May 2013

Great things that I read this week:

  • 15 Things that you should give up to be happy :  Some little ideas about things that you should let go of to improve your future happiness.
  • The Cult of Design Dictatorship: Don’t act like you are Steve Jobs or 37 Signals unless you are them. (Riaan also made a very good point that 37 signals has a relatively low customer retention rate because people outgrow their product very quickly)
  • An excellent description of the drama triangle as well as some tips about getting out of it.
  • Some simple productivity tips for freelancers
  • My mind was blown by this excellent article about teaching young boys about entitlement and consent

I got lost in Stacey Mulcahy’s (aka @bitchwhocodes) brilliant curation of links. And then I followed a link about some things about addresses that programmers should remember.

I shipped two websites:

  • All Assess Insurance Assessors
  • A wedding invitation website

(They have both been ongoing, and one will still need some updates, I am pleased to be able to have them out in the world. )

I listened to some podcasts:

Ed Dale’s walking with Larry:
Practice deliberately on the stuff that makes you uncomfortable, so that you are always stretching yourself. Note: There are not a lot of people who I can say changed my life but Ed Dale is one of those people. Although I have never met him in person, he has made a huge difference in my life, primarily by encouraging me to start and have a process, and just trust in the process.  He taught me to free write, and has helped me deal with my anxiety disorder in so many ways. Do yourself a favour and listen to his podcast!

I also watched a video on a Short History of Typography, which of course needs to be juxtaposed against this loveable defence of Comic Sans.

And nothing but the truth

Hi,

I’m Trisha. This is my personal blog and all opinions are my own. I don’t set out to offend people about trivial things, but if you disagree with basic universal human rights we are probably going to butt heads.
If you follow a link to a site that sells you something, there is a good chance that it is an affiliate link which means that I might get a small amount from the sale. (It won’t change the price you pay).
